1. Basic understanding
This Code of Conduct is founded on a common basic understanding of socially responsible corporate management in accordance with the guidelines that follow.
We, JURA Elektroapparate AG and its subsidiaries, take responsibility within the limits of our resources and spheres of activity by giving consideration to the legal, economic, technological, social and ecological consequences of our corporate decisions and actions. In this way, we contribute to the social and economic development of the countries and regions in which we operate.
We act in accordance with the relevant statutory regulations. We are guided by ethical values and principles, particularly honesty and integrity, as well as respect for human dignity.
This Code of Conduct defines the basic principles of how we operate and with which we expect compliance from our employees around the world. This document applies for all subsidiaries of our company.
We expect the same basic understanding from our business partners. There is no basis provided for creating rights on the part of third parties.
2. Compliance with the law
Compliance with the existing legislation and other regulations in the countries in which we operate is a matter of course for us. Should the local laws and regulations be less restrictive, our actions are guided by the basic principles of this Code of Conduct. For cases in which there is a direct contradiction between the mandatory local law and the basic principles in this Code of Conduct, local law takes precedence.
Nevertheless, we are committed to complying with the contents of this Code of Conduct.
3. Integrity and compliance
We have implemented suitable compliance measures to ensure the following issues are appropriately covered:
3.1 Corruption
We do not tolerate corruption, bribery or extortion; these prevent fair competitive conditions. Contributions that are linked to intent or may appear to influence business decisions or create any other undue advantage, will not be promised, offered, guaranteed, required or accepted in our business relationships, nor will we accept promises of such. Particularly stringent standards are to be applied to individuals for whom special criminal and liability law regulations apply (e.q. public officials).
3.2 Fair competition
We act in accordance with national and international competition and cartel law and do not participate in price-fixing agreements, the sharing of markets, customer or marketing agreements or collusive tendering.
3.3 Prevention of money laundering
Money laundering is the process of channelling illegally obtained money or illegally obtained assets into the legal financial and economic system. We comply with our legal obligations for the prevention of money laundering and do not participate in transactions which serve to conceal or integrate criminally or illegally acquired assets.
3.4 Protection of information and intellectual property
We protect confidential information and respect intellectual property; the transfer of technology and know-how must be done in a manner that protects intellectual property rights and customer information, trade secrets and non-public information. We observe the laws in force for the protection of trade secrets and treat confidential information from our business partners accordingly.
3.5 Data protection
We process, save and protect personal data in compliance with statutory regulations. Personal data is treated confidentially and collected in a transparent manner for lawful, previously specified purposes only. We only process personal data that is protected against loss, amendment and unauthorised use or disclosure using appropriate technical and organisational measures.
4. Health and safety
We safeguard the health of our employees by implementing suitable occupational health and safety measures that appropriately cover the following issues:
- Compliance with the applicable laws and guidance taken from international standards in relation to health and occupational safety;
- suitable workplace design, safety requlations and the provision of suitable personal protective equipment;
- implementation of preventive monitoring actions, emergency measures, an accident reporting system and other suitable measures for continuous improvement;
- facilitating access to adequate supplies of drinking water, as well as access to clean sanitary facilities for employees.
We ensure that all our employees receive the appropriate training and instruction.
5. Remuneration and working hours
Remuneration complies with the current legislation, as well as any legally binding collective agreements, and is supplemented by the respective national minimum wage legislation. The employees are regularly provided with clear and detailed information about how their wages are calculated.
We comply with the applicable laws and (international) working standards with regard to the maximum permitted working hours and ensure that the working hours, including overtime, do not exceed the legally permitted maximum limit.
6. Respect for human rights
We respect and support compliance with internationally recognised human rights
- and respect the personal dignity, privacy and individual rights of every individual;
- protect and grant the right to freedom of opinion and expression;
- will not tolerate any unacceptable treatment of employees, such as physical or psychological violence, sexual and personal harassment or discrimination.
6.1 Ban on child labour
We do not tolerate any form of child labour. We do not employ anyone who cannot provide proof of a minimum age of 15 years. We request proof of age from our employees.
6.2 Ban on forced labour
Forced labour, modern slavery or comparable measures that limit personal freedom are prohibited. Any work carried out must be voluntary and it must be possible to terminate the employment relationship.
6.3 Promotion of variety, diversity and equal opportunities
We promote equal opportunities and do not tolerate any form of discrimination. We treat all people the same, regardless of sex, age, skin colour, ethnic background, sexual identity and orientation, disability, religious affiliation, ideology or any other personal characteristics.
7. Environment, energy and climate protection
We act in compliance with current legislation and are guided by international standards when it comes to minimising any negative impact on the environment and continuously improving our activities in favour of environmental and climate protection. All employees are made aware of how they can contribute to protecting the environment and are provided with the necessary training measures.
We have taken suitable environmental measures which cover the following issues appropriately:
- definition, determination and implementation of measures, as well as their continuous improvement;
- environmental aspects such as the reduction of CO2 emissions, increased energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies, the safeguarding of water quality and reduction of water consumption, the safeguarding of air quality, the promotion of resource efficiency, the reduction and correct disposal of waste, and the responsible handling of dangerous substances for both people and the environment.
8. Dealing with conflict materials
We take the necessary steps to ensure we avoid using conflict materials in our products, with the aim of preventing human rights abuses, corruption and the funding of armed groups or similar.
9. Supply chain
We expect our suppliers to comply with the principles in this Code of Conduct or to abide by a code of conduct with similar values. We also encourage them to enforce this Code of Conduct in their own supply chains
We reserve the right to check whether our suppliers are systematically applying this Code of Conduct as required.
If doubts persist with regard to compliance with this Code of Conduct, the supplier will be invited to implement suitable countermeasures and to report back to his contact in our company. If necessary, the cooperation will be terminated.
10. Implementation of enforcement
We make appropriate and reasonable efforts to maintain, document and apply the principles and values described in this Code of Conduct. All employees are made aware of the Code of Conduct and what it contains and receive appropriate training on relevant issues. Violations of the Code of Conduct will not be tolerated and may lead to disciplinary action.
10.1 Communication
We communicate openly and meaningfully about what is required by this Code of Conduct and its implementation in relation to employees, customers, suppliers and other interest groups and stakeholders.
10.2 Information concerning violations
We provide our employees and business partners with a safe process by which they can report suspected violations of the principles in this Code of Conduct in a confidential manner.
